That’s a German customs plate (Z = abbreviation for ‘Zoll’ - customs in German). Possibly a temporary import?

No photo I’m afraid, but just saw a black Interceptor, 42 LOF in Weymouth. The rear badge had been modified to say ‘Interceptor GS’ And it had four individual, round taillights either side instead of the standard ones.

The original design did indeed have the headlight covers. As a result of bad press for the similar covers on the recently introduced E-type (crazing, steaming up), the Jensen brothers decided to delete them at the last minute, too late to allow any tooling changes, much to my Dad’s disappointment. There is a strong chance that this was styled by Eric Neale, the designer of the 541 and C-V8, as his first major car design.
