MOT if driving in Europe
I was speaking to a classic car owner at a car event who has recently taken it across to Europe on a rally, his car is MOT exempt. He was stopped in France and spent a couple of hours trying to explain to the local police that he was exempt and they seemed to think this exemption was only in the UK....

Could a fake one me made using the pictures you have? If you install modern electronics inside it it would not need the dynamo drive.

Re: Name that car
I reckon that is a 1974 or 1975 Chevy Malibu looking at the grill and the headlights. The later cars had stacked headlights and the earlier ones had headlights that went into the bonnet.

Re: Interceptor MkIII rims on MkII
They can't have thought they were needed as the studs were standard length on the one I worked on.

For those that like a Micro Car there is a museum of them in Lincolnshire, well worth popping in if you are that way.

Re: Interceptor MkIII rims on MkII
Yes I think so, I have only ever worked on one but it had thin spacers on the front.

Re: Interceptor MkIII rims on MkII
A thin wheel spacer also works like they used on the MK111 FF's .I think I used an 8 mm or 10 mm one on the last one I did.

Re: Classic cars on the road
About 20 years ago an Uncle gave me his MK2 Escort 1.1 L in Beige as he was giving up driving and the local garage didn't want it. I knew it was pretty ropey but it had a couple of months MOT left on it. I drove it home and realised how bad it was. I put it in for an MOT and the amount of rust and p...

Re: restoration in Europe
I was talking to an owner of a Rover SD1 who had sent it to Poland for a restoration recently, he had been quoted half what they were quoting in the UK. They collected it included in the price. Once they had it the price increased on everything they found that was not visible in the photos he had se...

Re: Classic cars on the road
A friend had the Van version that he bought new a few months before they ceased production. He did a huge mileage in it traveling the length of the UK often once a week. Sadly it failed an MOT on terminal rust after a dozen or so years of trouble free service. The only thing it ever had was brakes a...

Re: Thoughts 383 strange x mark
I have seen this before on engines and on some 727 Gearboxes. No idea why or what it is for. Maybe it was done on the production line for some reason?

Re: Check your fuel tank inlet hose
My MOT tester allows to me to be under the car while he is doing his inspection. Looking at a car from a different angle will often highlight something that is not obvious.

Re: Check your fuel tank inlet hose
This is one of the reasons not having an annual MOT is so stupid, with a bit of luck the tester will notice cracked and damaged hoses. Just before Christmas a Jensen owner was telling me he wont have an MOT because he does not want them to find anything it might fail on  I explained if they d...

Re: Name that car
RHD drive and a UK number plate by the look of it, Rover SD1 or Monza rear lights and maybe Wolfrace wheels, I am still thinking Kitcar or maybe a prototype?
