Re: Need a tachometer for a 1936 Jensen Ford - Any ideas?

No Stephen! There is original factory correspondence about these’Clark Gable’ cars and they had tachometers. My S-Type has an 8-day clock bur its in addition to the tachometer

Re: Need a tachometer for a 1936 Jensen Ford - Any ideas?

Good ideas from Steve, Stephen and Kees but when you are dealing with a very scarce example (3 made) of a very desirable and famous model (one of the other two fetched nearly quarter of a million at auction in concourse condition) it’s worth going to great lengths to find the exact right thing worki...

Re: Need a tachometer for a 1936 Jensen Ford - Any ideas?

I’ve already replied to the same query separarely by email. Ford did not put tachos on their cars at that time. When Jensen made the ‘Clark Gable’ Jensen Fords and Jensen Ford Woody they used Cooper Stewart of London tachos using the same typeface as used on the Ford speedo. I attached screenshots t...

Re: CV8 - BLH 18B - 104/2222

A positive enough write-up with the usual journalistic cliches. It seems an appealing car. But its been on the market for at least a year and no-one wants to pay £70 grand. Similarly the other CV8s on the market for this or even more. It went to £47.5k at auction and I guess around £50-55K is where ...

Re: Superb Early Interceptor Article

It’s very heartening to hear of all these Early Interceptors being restored. For a very long time they were largely unloved and forgotten car in the classic car world and even the JOC apart from a few stalwarts who kept the flag flying. They are just the sort of highly idiosyncratic model that only ...

Superb Early Interceptor Article

Another wonderful article by John Staddon in the March/April JOC magazine on his Early Interceptor restoration. While the detailed updates on the Early Cars Forum have been fascinating, it’s also very helpful to pull the various aspects together in a series of magazine articles. They also showcase t...

Re: Spare car for Felix

All a little confusing as by coincidence Dr Whitaker’s middle name was Dudley. As I say, in due course a new owner could contact Dr Whitaker’s ‘children’, now in their sixties and teenagers in the 70s, to tell the story, may even have some photos

Re: Spare car for Felix

Whitaker was member 29 in Issue No 1 owning a CV8 MkIII. He died in 2009. Presumably his son and daughter would be able to throw more light on matters for whoever buys it

Re: Electric vehicles (split from Quentin Willson's hot tips)

The more stats and graphs, I think the less many people are convinced. It’s up to politicians to make the arguments, have convincing policies and actions, with very big inventives to change to EVs etc. Ultimately a lot of people paying for their own car (ie not company car people) will ask what’s in...

Re: Electric vehicles (split from Quentin Willson's hot tips)

I’m well aware of the NASA type quote and like everyone on this forum would not have the scientific expertise to know whether it is garbage or not. On balance I accept what is being said and all possible steps should be taken. My point was that if you look at any good book on the history of the eart...

Re: Electric vehicles (split from Quentin Willson's hot tips)

I tend to agree with Mike about the above stats. I too have learnt a lot from some of the posts. I don’t have any particular missionary zeal one way or the other on EVs. It will be inevitable here in due course. My only observations are - while the UK and most European states will play ball re clima...

Re: Viperceptor at Historics Auction RUF 340M

Had a good look at the Viperceptor this morning and it really is an enormously impressive piece of work. I hope it does well, although it is parked right next to one of its competitors in the sale, a beautiful red Ferrari at quite a bit less. I think there will be someone out there who wants the Vip...

Re: Buying an Irish car - Help please

That’s all very helpful, Steve, and I’ll bear it in mind for the future. Right now due to family care commitments it’s probably all too complicated. A couple of things put me off the car and vendor in Northern Ireland. He’s described on the website as a private seller. If so he’s bought the car and ...

Re: Buying an Irish car - Help please

Thanks Chris, as usual an extemely helpful and well-informed reply. Thanks also John for your various observations. I am rapidly going off the idea of buying it given the mega hassle and uncertainty, probably it’s best going back to Ireland. Though it’s just my kind of thing, there will be other fis...
