Re: MK1 115/2924 assembly and paint colours
Thanks for the input guys.. I have to agree that I’m not a fan of white. I personally think it’s a waist of the lovely body lines. I think it looks a bit plain and lacks the depth other colours have. If I was to paint it white for my granddad the car wouldn’t be original so I was wondering if I coul...

MK1 115/2924 assembly and paint colours
Hi everyone. So I’ve spent the last few weeks working on my car, while waiting on engine parts to arrive.. the engine is now almost fully rebuilt, unfortunately the rain and wind in wales over the last few weeks has been slowing my progress. I’m having to rebuild the engine outside as there’s not en...

Re: Non starting MK1 383
I’ve found some photos of the engine when my granddad bought the car.. some photos of when he had it rebuilt in 1990-91, and how the engine sits now, well before I started dismantling it...

Re: Non starting MK1 383
Ah right.. well as much as I’d love to go to town on the internals of the engine and get it running sweet, it’s purely down to cost at the moment.. I know it’ll be much better to replace everything but the block, start with fresh new bits. But it’s going to have to be broken things first... When we ...

Re: Non starting MK1 383
Ah thank you @slotcarone, that’s Exactly what I needed to know. I may as well go ahead with my plan and pull the whole lot out, and start from scratch, I was thinking about separating the gearbox first and trying to turn it then, but I won’t bother now. Arm and leg, well basically nothing. Because o...

Re: Non starting MK1 383

Re: Non starting MK1 383
Thanks everyone.. we’ve stripped everything down and started from fresh about 3 times now over the last week or 2, idiot checking every time. Everything seams to be exactly where and how it should be... with piston 1 at TDC the rotor arm is pointing at the rear edge of the alternator, just past the ...

Re: Non starting MK1 383
The engine does sound a bit sluggish when it’s cranking, like your trying to turn the car over with a flat battery.. it dose seam like we can’t get the engine to turn over fast enough to get it to take off. there’s more life and it sounds a lot better better when we rotate the distributer 180* but t...

Re: Non starting MK1 383
Thanks Grant, that’s basically what I’m doing now. . Though even with half a cup full, the plugs are barely moist.. it quite baffling.. The fuel tank isn’t connected, fuel line stop half down the car before it reaches the tank... we’re getting occasional coughs and splutters, and signs that the engi...
