Without actually hearing the sound its tough to diagnose, but I had something which seems extremely similar (and my guesses were similar to yours.) Of all things it turned out to be the harmonic balancer at the front of the engine... replaced it along with the belts for good measure, fortunately an ...

Just ordered a custom plate, $20 to save a massive amount of bureaucratic hell is well worth it:-)

Now just keep my fingers crossed that the inspector is not a Jensen fan...

Thanks,

Thanks so much... I see now. Unfortunately not a good spot for the California Department of Motor Vehicles, they won't put the car up on a lift. Was hoping to find something visible in the engine bay etc... guess I could "create" a plate... hmmm

Thanks John, so you mean I should look behind the metalwork that's just behind the front bumper?

Interceptor VIN /Chassis Number Plate

Hi All, I'm wondering, is there any location on a MkIII where I might find the VIN number, other than the plate on the driver's door frame? I ask only to save myself from some serious inconvenience, as apparently California requires that the VIN be engraved in 2 places or I need to take the car for ...

Quite right on the use of the word "vintage", agreed it should be reserved for an older segment of old cars... though perhaps the term is used more loosely here in the states, particularly in Los Angeles where virtually anything older than 20 years is considered a historic landmark:-) Best...

hah, that's very funny, I wonder if the former owner was inspired by that!

In any case that pic reminds me, I definitely need to have the windows tinted here in Los Angeles... not a huge fan of the way it looks on a vintage car, but a practical necessity.

Thanks, sounds like more of a "you'll learn what your car needs" sort of thing than a set rule on startup.

So the 73's were designed to run on unleaded, that's good to hear... did not recall that unleaded was becoming standard in the US back then.

Best,

Hello from a New Member / MkIII Owner in California

Hi All, While the car is not yet in my driveway - going to be shipped for arrival in early June - I wanted to introduce myself to the forum as a proud new Jensen owner. Having looked for the right Interceptor for over a year - and essentially given up on finding the right car for my needs at a fair ...
