Current Owner’s Comments (Oct 2012)

While searching for a LHD-Mk1, I came in contact with Paul from Dorset-Classics in NL. Actually I searched for two LHD-Mk1s which were advertised by Classic Center Brummen in NL some years ago. They were both stored in a container for many years. The first one was 117/2614, which was totally taken apart and lots of parts missing, the second one was 117/2622 which had a big dent at the right rear end, but seemed to be complete. Paul told me that both cars were scrapped for parts. He offered me 117/2609 but told me that it would be only for parts. The car was totally rusted that there would be no reasonable chance to save it. And there were no documents to the car. I rejected as I wanted a complete car for restoring. And Paul told me that he would sell 117/2609 for parts to Kuwait.

After giving up finding a suitable LHD, I purchased 115/2950 in Birmingham for complete restoration. Then I had contact with Paul again. And after a while I decided to do a LHD-conversion with the LHD-parts from 2609. I collected the rusty bucket in NL and removed all usable parts incl. engine and transmission. The suspension and brake parts were too rusty to use them anymore. The whole body parts were rotten, the roof dented, the tailgate and doors brittled in the hinges area so they could only be fixed with cable ties. The abandoned leftover was definitely scrapped on 22nd August, 2012.
